Welcome to the 2018 Season!

June 1, 2018

CSA Week #1

We hope you’ve all been taking advantage of the early summer we’ve had so far this year, our weeds certainly have!

From this point on, you will be receiving updates on the farm and what’s in store for the weeks ahead. As those of you who have been with us since the beginning know though, our summers are sunup to sundown and sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to open a laptop but we will do our best and please don’t hesitate to send us an email or give us a call at the farm if you have any questions.

When you come for your first pickup at the markets this weekend, we will have a member pickup section where you can grab your crate for the season. You won’t need to send in your choices this year, simply come down, say hi, and fill up your crate with whatever your heart desires!

Salt & Harrow 2018

Field Note

This is our third season in full production and, as was expected, it seems we have awoken every type of weed you can imagine! The fluctuations in weather and record high temperatures have also had a hand in the sudden burst in activity. We have started to bring our interns up to speed though and they’ve quickly become our secret weapon against the lady finger and lambs quarter that have been infiltrating the fields.

Weeds aside, we are particularly excited for this season as we have broken new ground and increased production on some of our favourites so you can expect to see an abundance of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, and summer squash this year!

We’re still in the midst of the heavy spring push and will see the last of the summer babies from our propagation house go into their new home in the field next week. It will be nice to have a little lull before the winter crops go in, just enough time to catch up on some sleep and teach the chickens some new tricks.
